The association of sex and violence against women is so blatant in the United States that we have become blind to its origin in religion: the Ten Commandments define women and children as property that is to be controlled by any means. The Old Testament view of women as the source of evil in the world betrays a paranoid distortion of reality. The reduction of human beings to mere objects permeates 'Christian' American Culture; slavery was but one symptom of this pornographic tendency. As always, violence against lesser people translates to profit.
